The show-stopper this Spring has to be Alan Sapsard's entry in Class 10 (Group of Three Species) which, overall, won an incredible 7 trophies plus 3 other awards.  The group was awarded First in its Class and the Congress Cup (Best Group of Three Orchids), while the individual plants - namely Masdevallia caesia, Papilionanthe teres and Phalaenopsis leucorrhoda 'Tarda' × leucorrhoda - between them won the Frances Simmons Memorial Cup (Best Pleurothallid), The Phalaenopsis Cup (Best Phalaenopsis), The Johnnie Dyball Award (Best Mounted Orchid), The Singapore Cup (Best Species from South-East Asia), The Species Cup (Best Species) and The President's Shield (Best in Show) . . . plus two Awards for Cultural Excellence!

Alan's choice of plants was also very well judged, to the purist observer, as it comprised three very different types of orchid - both warmer growing and cooler growing, higher light and lower light, monopodial and sympodial, Old World and New World.  It also demonstrated three different growing regimes - pot culture, basket culture, and mounted on bark - each with its own specific requirements and all to a high level of skill.  A real tour de force; congratulations, Alan!
